Sinmara was previously known under the name CHAO. The change in name sees the band develop upon their foundations of chaotic agression contrasted with haunting melodies, bringing forth a newfound maturity and focus of composition, masterful musicianship and a zealous intensity of execution. Along with the change in name there has also been a change in line-up, and the band now features members of Wormlust, Rebirth of Nefast and Svartidauði. Aphotic Womb takes the listener on a descent into a writhing underworld of diverse soundscapes and themes, from the harmonic chaos and orchestrated madness of “Verminous”, to the mournful elegy of the title track, and culminating in the eschatological epic “Mountains of Quivering Bones”. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered over a period of 2 years by Stephen Lockhart at Studio Emissary, resulting in a world class production, and features stunning artwork and layout from Alexander L. Brown at BNB Illustration & Design. Released by TERRATUR POSSESSIONS.

lyrics
All-terrible goddess of night
Whose shears rupture the cord of life
Inexorable bane of aeons,
I supplicate before thee.
As the autumnal gale falling leaves does blow
So my soul 'fore thy wrath does tremble with woe.
Hear my lament
Before thy black sickle it's harvest does reap
Take heed of my prayer o bringer of sleep,
I beseech thee
The sepulchral grounds glisten in twilight
As the sun succumbs to the shadows at dusk
The glare of the inverted torch
Illuminates the path towards descension
Herald of the highest gods
Carry me through chthonian halls
The charnel depths where serpents coil
Below the earth where light can't pierce the soil
Let me cross the frigid waters,
Where incorporeal shades coalesce,
Where eaters of ash and drinkers of mud
Form the choir of a thousand horrors
Imperious sovereign of all that breathes
No earthly sceptre shall impede
Thy pitiless hand whom all turns pale
Against whose touch all flesh is frail
Transfixed by thy spectral majesty
I prepare to greet eternity
Upon abyssal shores
Goddess of tenebrous grace
Enshroud me in thy black embrace
Let me rest in thy aphotic womb
Forevermore
Swirling guitars, furious drums, vocals that at the same time howl from infinite distance and are right up in your head; everything put into dissonant form with the help of unconventional songwriting. This album is my personal key to the icelanding black metal madness that I've ignored for way too long! Lukas Kaufmann
This whole album is flawless. This is music for walking in the rain and letting your thoughts run. It's not just a collection of songs, but an actual album. yakbone
